In humans epilepsy is a serious condition. So is for the dogs. They have this disease also and they can find it difficult to deal with. Epileptic seizures can appear. Usually the dogs that are between 1 and 3 years tend to develop this problem more often. It is a serious illness and it must be treated as such.

One can not stop an epileptic attack from happening but it can be kept under control. Some of the solutions are to feed the dog the best food, do some regular exercises with him and give him various vitamins and nutritional supplements to help his immune system. One can not confuse this illness with just a regular one because it is not. Do not give the dog cheap food as it has food preservatives that can be harmful and they can cause other seizures.

Symptoms
Seizures are the most common symptoms. Besides that the mood swings and the behavior changes follow. You will see that the dog will start to hide himself from the world, drool and also vomit. He can even lose control over his bladder. Some dogs even lose consciousness and have pretty violent muscle contractions.

You will also notice stiffening in the legs, teeth gnashing and some vocalizations. The dog will also become thirsty, a bit disoriented and in many cases, sleepy. Usually after a seizure the symptoms disappear.

Epilepsy Treatment
This is one of those diseases that can not be cured but only managed. Certain medication solution can reduce the seriousness of the disease. You must take the dog to the veterinarian and monitor its condition all the times. You must be patient and follow the doctor’s advice. The disease can be managed and it is up to you to find the ways to do that.

Many dogs that have this illness live a good and comfortable life. Your dog can do that too. Do not be scared when it is having a seizure because it will pass. Normally a seizure episode takes about half an hour. It will disappear after that. It is very important that you keep the dog safe and warm when it is having a seizure. You must not prohibit him to vomit. The dog must feel that he is loved even if he is getting vomit on the carpet. Otherwise he will also be scared when having a seizure and that will only complicate matters.

Epilepsy is a susceptibility for having seizures. The condition has being recognized since around 400BC, when it was often attributed to possession by evil spirits. But today we are not much closer to truly understanding what causes it.

Seizures are sometimes preceded by an ‘aura’, but not all epileptics will have them and there is great variation in the experiences. Sometimes the aura is enjoyable, making the person feeling overwhelmingly happy or ecstatic. But they can also be very unpleasant, causing fear, anxiety or nausea. How the aura presents itself may depend on the area of the brain affected. For instance, if it starts in the area which deals with perception it can be an auditory or visual experience. If a seizure begins in the motor cortex the first sign that an epileptic fit is imminent might be a tremor in one of the limbs.

Many epileptics will never have a real explanation as to what triggered their condition. There are a number of things which are known to cause epilepsy though. This includes some types of head trauma, a brain tumour, a high fever or a stroke. Some people may have a genetic predisposition to the disorder.

Whatever the cause, some sort of damage to the brain makes it vulnerable to hyperactivity. This inappropriate electrical response spreads to the adjacent nerve cells and quickly overwhelms them. Soon, the whole brain is effected by this overload of electrical impulses. Stress, alcohol, strobe lighting and drug use can all contribute to the start of a seizure.

If you are with someone who is having an epileptic fit, place them gently on their side with something soft (such as a rolled up jumper or cushion) under their head. Do not try to restrain them. It can be quite a frightening thing to witness, but remain calm and reassure them until the seizure stops (they normally last several minutes).

Medical advancements means most epileptics can still live a normal life.

Drug induce hair loss, is it possible?

Drug is a chemical substance which is entered our body in purpose-to help us bring back our normal condition. However, besides the good effect, we can also get side effect, mostly negative and unwanted side effect when we use certain drugs in a continuous time.

In the manufacturer leaflet we can find statements for side effect or contra indication. It was based on the studies in the lab or cases that have been reported from users during their usage period. That information helps us aware about what might happen to us if we use their product. That’s why we have to read carefully (even if we are under a doctor supervision) before taking a drug.

When you are eating certain drugs that labelled to have side effect in causing baldness or you have hereditary bald from your family, it’s wise to consult with your doctor.

Some drugs can cause hair loss. It can be temporary or permanent hair loss. These are some of drugs that induce hair loss.

*Acne treatment contain vitamin A

*Epilepsy drug

*Anti depression

*Hormonal containing drugs such as Birth Control Pills.

If you have to eat drug that can induce hair loss, do some hair treatment to reverse the side effect. Applying hair tonic contains Ginseng extract and shampooing with the right shampoo might help to reduce hair loss.

What should be remembered are:

1. Different people react differently to a drug.

2. You never know how your body react to a drug until you drink it.

3. Even a doctor or drug manufacturer can only predict the effect base on trial or cases that has been reported.

Further reading:
www.Americanhairloss.org/drug_induced_hair_loss/

There are many people asks me about leaky gut syndrome symptoms. This article will help answering that question based on true experience.

The symptoms that I had were increasingly severe allergies to increasing numbers of things, especially foods, but also medications. I’d get large patches of whitish hives surrounded by deep pink that would itch profusely, in various parts of my body, or sometimes I’d get a kind of dotted red rash that looked like I had taken a red felt tip marker and made little dots all over in patches but wouldn’t itch so intensely.

And I had a lot of sinus problems and mucus secretion, and fluid in my ears. I also had a lot of joint pain, fatigue, and really dark circles under my eyes. Taking antihistamines (even prescription antihistamines) wouldn’t phase the allergic reaction, and would cause a rebound effect after wearing off, so that when they wore off, the allergic reaction would intensify, leaving me worse than before taking it.

My immune system was also so weak that I’d pick up any virus going around, at the drop of a hat, in spite of eating an extremely healthy diet and taking lots of supplements and vitamin C.

What happens in leaky gut syndrome is that the lining of the intestines develops little holes in it from parasitic attack, infection, candida, or other causes, that allow partially digested or undigested proteins to pass through. Normally only completely broken down amino acids are allowed to pass through. When larger proteins pass through, the body can’t use them, and recognizes them as antigens and develops antibodies against them.

Medical treatment is generally advised for dogs with epilepsy experiencing one or more seizures per month. Haphazard administration of prescribed medicines is worse than no treatment at all, and may cause status epilepticus, a life threatening condition where the brain is in a state of persistent seizure. Successful drug treatment for dogs with epilepsy depends upon the owner’s dedication to delivering the drug exactly as prescribed by the veterinarian.

Drug concentration in your pet is more important for seizure control than daily dosage.

Work with your veterinarian in observing and testing to ensure your canine receives the appropriate drug amounts to achieve control and avoid side effects. Alternative therapies, including acupuncture and vitamin therapy, are usually not considered substitutes for drug therapy but used in conjunction. Some forms of epilepsy in dogs respond to supplementation of vitamin B6, magnesium, and manganese. A veterinarian might advise euthanasia only in extreme cases where seizures cannot be controlled.

Epilepsy is found in all pure breeds and mixed breeds of dogs. Epilepsy in the general dog population is estimated at .5 to 5.7%.

Epilepsy in dogs is one cause of seizures; dog breeds more prone include Keeshond, Tervueren, Cocker Spaniel, Poodle, Collie, German Shepherd, Irish Setter, Golden Retriever, Dachshund, Labrador Retriever, Saint Bernard, Miniature Schnauzer, Siberian Husky, and Wire-haired Terrier. What causes this “hereditary” (also known as primary) epilepsy is not known for certain. A genetic basis for primary epilepsy in dogs is possible if there is a familial history of seizures; however, a diagnosis of primary epilepsy is not proof of a genetic defect. Only DNA and breeding studies could prove that.

Diagnosis of epilepsy is made primarily by ruling out other possibilities, and not based on diagnostics.

Some use the term epilepsy to describe recurrent seizures of any cause, while others use the term epilepsy to describe recurrent seizures not related to disorders of the brain or other underlying disease processes. Epilepsy can also be described as idiopathic — arising spontaneously or from an unknown cause.

Primary epilepsy.

Primary canine epilepsy manifests by a first seizure between 6 months and 5 years. Epilepsy between 1-3 years usually suggests a genetic factor. At 4 years and older, epilepsy commonly suggests a metabolic problem such as hypoglycemia (lower than normal level of glucose/blood sugar), cardiovascular arrhythmia, hypocalcaemia (low blood calcium level), cirrhosis or neoplastic (abnormal growth of tissue) brain tumor. Epilepsy in dogs is also associated with hypothyroidism, an inherited autoimmune disease of purebreds.

During the tonic phase of a grand mal seizure, the dog falls, loses consciousness, extends its limbs rigidly, and respiration pauses (apnea). This phase usually lasts 10-30 seconds before the clonic phase begins.

Clonic phase.

The clonic phase involves muscle rigidity and violent muscle contractions. The clonic phase can include paddling of legs and paws and/or chewing, pupil dilation, salivation, urination and defecation. A dog with a mild seizure may have little or no rigid extension of limbs, paddling or loss of consciousness. Generalized seizures (involving both sides of the brain) are usually associated with primary epilepsy.

Petit mal seizure is very rare.

A petit mal seizure (abnormal electrical discharge in brain) in dogs with epilepsy is very rare and only diagnosed by specific clinical signs and EEG abnormalities. Signs of unconsciousness, loss of muscle tone, blank staring, and upward rotation of eyes will last only seconds.

Partial seizures.

Partial seizures are restricted to one area of the body, evidenced by muscle jerking, movement of one limb, turning the head or bending the body to one side, or facial twitches.

Complex partial seizures.

Seizures in dogs with epilepsy that are described as complex partial seizures are evidenced by bizarre complex behaviors that are repeated during each seizure, such as lip movements, chewing, fly biting, aggressive actions, vocalization, hysterical running, cowering or hiding, in an otherwise normal dog. Complex partial seizures include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal distress, salivation, blindness, unusual thirst or appetite, or biting itself.

Cluster seizures.

Cluster seizures are multiple seizures within a short period of time with brief periods of consciousness in between.

Status epilepticus.

Status epilepticus seizures in dogs can occur as one continuous seizure lasting half hour or more, or a series of multiple seizures in a short time with no periods of normal consciousness. Status epilepticus and frequent cluster seizures are both considered life-threatening emergencies, and can occur with either primary or secondary epilepsy, and may suddenly arise in dogs with no previous history of seizures.

When a cause for seizures can be established it is referred to as secondary epilepsy in dogs. Common causes of seizures in puppies less than a year old are classified as degenerative; developmental (hydrocephalus); toxins (lead, arsenic, organophosphates, chlorinated hydrocarbons, strychnine, tetanus); infectious (distemper, encephalitis); metabolic (transient hypoglycemia, enzyme deficiency, liver or kidney failure); nutritional (thiamine, parasitism); and traumatic (severe injury).

The marshall protocol was developed for the treatment of sarcoidosis by trevor marshall. In the past few years the protocol has been adapted to treat chronic fatigue syndrome patients. The theory behind the treatment is that these diseases are caused by infectious pathogens in the body, such as mycoplasma. The body is unable to rid itself of these infections because the immune system is shifted from a th1 to a th2 state. When in this state, the immune system switches from fighting infections to producing antibodies. The goal of the marshall protocol is to get rid of these cell wall deficient organisms and switch the body’s immune system back to a th1 immune state.

To do this, the protocol recommends reducing the levels of vitamin d metabolites in your body through diet and avoidance of sunlight. This may be a very difficult part to adhere to because mp recommends that you reduce your levels of sunlight for up to two years. Patients are recommened to keep the skin covered when outdoors and to wear special glasses to reduce sun light exposure through the eyes.

In addition to the avoidance of sun exposure the protocol recommends the use of a blood pressure drug called benicar. This drug is used to reduce inflammation by blocking the angiotensin II receptor. Dr. Marshall believes that if inflammation is not reduced the antibiotics will not fully be able to kill the cell wall deficient bacteria.

The marshall protocol is a very big commitment, as it requires years of strict compliance. It is also not yet a proven way to cure chronic fatigue syndrome or sarcoidosis. You may want to wait until the studies are completed, to find out how effective this protocol is. But if you have run out of options, this could be something for you to try.

This brief guide is intended to help you identify dog seizure symptoms so that you can save your dog’s life in case of emergency.

A seizure can be defined as the body experiencing muscle contractions and shaking uncontrollably and aggressively. The cause of seizures is often unknown. Your best defense is to be able to recognize the dog seizure symptoms listed below. By knowing your dog well, you should be able to identify normal and abnormal behavior.

4 Common Dog Seizure Symptoms

When something in the brain triggers the neurological system, a dog will experience a seizure, which is a disorder of the brain. The seizure can last anywhere from a few moments to several minutes. Viruses or diseases do not cause seizures. Dog seizures often occur because of epilepsy. Here are some symptoms that are common to dog seizures. Your dog may show one or more of the following symptoms:

1.	Your dog starts to defecate, urinate or salivate uncontrollably.
2.	Your dog starts to hallucinate.
3.	Your dog starts to bark excessively and gnaw at his limbs or paws.
4.	Your dog no longer responds to your commands.
5.	Your dog suffers from involuntary muscle contractions, whether isolated or affecting his entire body.

Is your dog in danger during a seizure? He should be fine as long as he is lying on the ground. Even though his body is having convulsions, his tongue will not block his airway so he will be able to breathe. Don’t bother putting your hand down his throat to try and clear his airway. The dog could inadvertently bite you if you do.

What should you do? Call your local vet immediately and don’t try to diagnose the problem by yourself. Your dog is in need of immediate attention from a veterinarian who knows how to deal with seizures. By recognizing dog seizure symptoms, you can help save your dog’s life, but you still need a vet to take care of him as soon as possible.

Try to have phone numbers for more than one vet if you can. Identify one or two local emergency animal care centers in your area and keep these numbers handy. You can post these numbers next to your veterinarian’s phone number and address or stick them on the fridge door. If you have some free time, it’s always a good idea to drive to the local animal hospital so that you know how to get there in case of emergencies or if your dog experiences a seizure.

Once you take your dog to the veterinarian, he or she will normally prescribe some medication to help keep your dog relaxed and stable. The prescribed treatment may last anywhere from one or two weeks to the rest of your dog’s life. This type of medication normally needs to be taken regularly and most veterinarians will avoid medicating a dog for life unless he experiences seizures on a regular basis.

Herb:

So, Josh, I understand you have epilepsy. You say that nutritional supplementation is necessary for normally healthy people due to the lack in our normal diets and even a greater lack occurs in those of us with diseases. You suggest a balanced diet is important and that the food pyramid is just a starter guideline but doesn’t provide all the specifics. So, Josh, tell our readers about the food pyramid and how we can use it as a starter guideline to eat a balanced diet according to it.

Josh:

Sure Herb, vegetables and fruits take up a small square on the food pyramid, BUT that is not because they have a small importance. In fact they just might be the most important items in the food pyramid.

It can seem impossible to eat the advised 9 servings a day of vegetables. I realized that the nutritional content of vegetables is a disappointing subject. Most vegetables are eaten after being boiled or cooked in some way that leaches out too much of the vitamins and minerals that you are assumed to need.

Most of our vegetables are grown in soil that has less and less mineral and nutritional content because the same fields are continuing to be reused over and over. When they are fertilized it is with cheap nitrogen fertilizers that do not add nutrition but simply stimulate faster and larger growth. The result is there is less time for the plants to process minerals and what does get into the fruits or vegetables is diluted. Now you have half the nutrition but twice the size so one serving has only 25% of the vitamins and minerals that it is expected to have. In order for me to get enough nutrients I would have to eat so much that I would be vomiting on a regular basis.

Herb:

Dude! Calm down! You seem to be pretty angry when you talk about vegetables.

Josh:

You’re right Herb. I do get a bit preachy when I talk about vegetables. When I sit down at a meal and I enjoy savoring the wonderful flavor of the meat, I am relaxed. When I take each bite of the pasta or breads, I look up to the ceiling and praise God after every bite and take a breath and then reach for another bite.

But when the salad comes out I forget to take a breath! I inhale the salad and go crazy for more! Literally! My eyes get wide and when the plate is empty I start hyperventilating with an intense craving for more of the life providing nutrients that I should be getting from the vegetables. You should see me at a salad bar. And I DON’T mean a buffet, I mean a SALAD BAR! I use the carrot sticks to build a wall around the outside of the plate to make it possible to pile up a larger mountain of vegetables. This is because my body is not getting enough nutrients from the vegetables. Fortunately I have been able to supplement a lot of those nutrients with herbal cures. Even though people warn that herbs are a scam they are not and really do help provide the missing nutrients.

It is so disappointing that there just isn’t enough nutrients in the vegetables where they are supposed to be. The only realistic hope that I have found is to include in my diet the extra supplements that provide the nutrition that I must have to effect my healing. Many seafoods are good if they are harvested from the ocean instead of fish farms. The nutrition there is often much denser than stuff grown on land. Still it is difficult to eat enough fish to get the omega oils that you need so omega oils are also good to supplement through herbal cures.

A birth defect is generally referred to as a complication occurring at birth which causes an infant to come out deformed, or otherwise impaired. Many people just assume that these birth defects are the result of a natural birth, and there is no way to help it. You might be surprised to find out that isn’t actually the case. As a matter of fact, a number of factors can cause birth defects, such as, fetal distress, improper positioning at birth, a delayed c-section, or many, many other factors. These factors can lead to even more serious afflictions such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Epilepsy, and Erbs Palsy, topamax birth defect, and pesticide birth defects to name a few.

A prime example of an induced birth effect, was the introduction of thalidomide to pregnant women in 1967 as a sleep aid, and a way to ward off morning sickness. It was only discovered later, that this drug caused the children to be born with horrific birth defects, ranging from having no arms, missing toes, and bring horrible misshapen. Recently it has been discovered that thalidomide was created by the Nazi’s in World War II in order to combat the effect of sarin gas. Fortunately, an FDA inspector named Frances Oldham Kelsey managed to discover the negative effects of the drug, and block it from being used in the United States, though recently it was legalized to treat other types of diseases.

The above is just one example of malpractice and negligence in the medical community, so how can we be sure similar things aren’t happening now? Isn’t it entirely possible that drugs worse than this exist today, and we just don’t know it? Yes, it is possible, and with careful observation, and a willingness to pay attention, we can certainly notice these things, and even say no to certain medical procedures, however what if you find out too late that your son or daughter has come out deformed? What then? Maybe it’s just something simple, like a missing finger, but even so, that is your child, your flesh and blood, and the doctors treated him or her like they were nothing. But that’s not all, it could even be the result of other types of neglect. Maybe you were exposed to some sort of pesticide, or even the epilepsy prevention drug Topamax, which has been known to cause genital birth defects in infants.

Sad but true, harmful drugs are prescribed every single day, and we sheepishly accept them. Though if you’ve been a victim of such a drug, you won’t be very quick to accept it again. If you find yourself to be affected by any sort of neglect, you need to contact a specialized lawyer immediately, and work with him or her to resolve this. They know the deal, they’ve dealt with this before, and they will go after those responsible to help you get every penny that’s coming to you, and maybe more. This isn’t something to be taken lightly, it’s the future of you and your children, and you must do everything in your power to secure those futures.

Epilepsy can occur when our body’s electrical system is not working correctly and there are disturbances in the signals to the brain. The brain is a complex electrical system and is powered by about 80 pulses of energy every second. These pulses then move back and forth between nerve cells and produce our feelings, our thoughts, and our memories. If our energy pulses occur more often, sometimes as many as 500 in a second, for a short time then this is an epileptic seizure.

This might happen in just a small area of the brain although it can affect the entire brain. This results in altering a person’s sensations or even a state of consciousness. It generally causes a person to have uncontrolled movements of areas of the body, or the entire body.

Epilepsy is considered a seizure disorder. This is because the person generally has seizures that reoccur. They usually vary in the frequency as well as the severity. The frequency of seizures varies from person to person. Some people experience several seizures in one day while others may have three or four seizures in their lifetime.

Although a seizure is a symptom of epilepsy not all seizures are a result of epilepsy. In a seizure not connected to epilepsy this may result from a severe head injury, a high fever, a drug or other conditions which include narcolepsy, diabetes, and some heart conditions.

Epilepsy is not catatonia nor is it a momentary confusion, lack of concentration, or forgetfulness. Although some people believe the contrary, epilepsy cannot be caused by holding one’s breath. Although some people will hold their breath until they faint, this is not any form of epilepsy. Also, it is not any type of fainting disorder. Epileptic seizures can be brought on by a variety of stimuli such as flashing lights, stress, or lack of sleep.
